Job Description:  Children’s Program Coordinator, Sound Learning   Shelton, WA

The Children’s Program Coordinator will lead a team to plan and implement engaging, educational and age-appropriate activities in collaboration with community volunteers, a work-study student, and other team members.  The Children’s Program Coordinator will take the lead in organizing materials for the program, maintain a neat classroom space, and ensure the team is attending to the safety and well-being of the children.  Orientation is provided, and some training available.

DUTIES:

  • Maintain a safe space and safety procedures with the children and team.

  • Plan and implement engaging, educational and age-appropriate activities in collaboration with community volunteers, a work-study student, and other team members

  • Support volunteers and team members as they work with the children. 

  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor, children, parents, volunteers, and team members.

  • Maintain the premises according to standards set by the host facility.  Keep the facility clean, return all equipment and supplies to designated storage.  Report all damages to the program supervisor immediately.

  • Monitor attendance and complete monthly/quarterly reporting as required.

  • Attend meetings and training's outside of scheduled class hours as needed.

  • Document lessons and systems to support the future sustainability of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required:

  • Previous experience working with children in a group setting.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Washington State background check.

  • Strong interest in education, working with children, and working with families from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.  Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Patience. 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on projects.

  • Ability to lead others and delegate tasks to a team.

  • Willingness to learn from others and accept feedback.

  • Able to commute to downtown Shelton. 

 

Desired:

  • AA degree preferred. Para-educator certificate, early learning certificate, or K-12 teaching certificate preferred.

  • Spanish language skills are preferred, but not required.

 

COMMITMENT:  Classes take place Tuesday and Thursday from 5:45-8:45 pm at CHOICE High School in Shelton.  Position is 10-12 hours per week and includes time for lesson planning, set-up/clean-up, class time, and program coordination.  This position is funded from January – June 2020.

BENEFITS:  The Children’s Program Coordinator will earn $13.50 -15/hr., DOE.  This is a part-time position in the evenings from January – June 2020.  Work in a community-based organization with strong programs and a positive reputation.  Educate, Succeed, Contribute.
