SOUND LEARNING JOB OPENING 
Position open November 24, 2021 until filled 

Program Coordinator-Instructor. 

Part-Time, Days (20 hours per week) 

Goal 
Conduct intake and assessment, support, and provide instruction for Adult students enrolled in Basic Studies (High School Plus diploma, GED, or Basic academic skills improvement) at the Sound Learning office and learning center in downtown Shelton.  

Must follow COVID-19 protocols including proof of vaccination or approved exemption, wear a mask and sanitize work areas as needed.  

Responsibilities – Coordination 

  • Schedule and deliver new student intake and assessment including:  

  • Obtain and interpret high school transcripts for HS+ students.  Complete student’s work and progress plan to acquire needed credits. 

  • Collaborate with staff at SPSCC regarding transcripts, credits, and student transfers.  

  • Manage student enrollment: track and record attendance, make calls and send notices to absent students, complete end of quarter reports and enter all data into state database. 

  • Prepare and update student and volunteer rosters and contacts.

  • Schedule quarterly standardized testing and student evaluations.  

  • Track and report volunteer hours.  

  • Maintain student and volunteer files. 

  • Collaborate with other staff to plan recognition activities for students and volunteers 

  • Write press releases, newsletter articles, website, and social media posts as needed for program outreach.  

  • Attend staff meetings as needed.  

  • Participate in required trainings and special events.  

 

Responsibilities – Instructional 

  • Provide instruction in daytime small groups (3 days per week) and online check-ins as needed for Basic Studies students in Mason County. Including: 

  • Prepare syllabi, orientation and pathway planning material, lessons and units and save in appropriate format and location. 

  • Instruct, and support progress of HS+ students working in Canvas courses.  

  • Develop materials to be used for GED or Basic Studies only based on student need.  Embed these lessons into courses created in Canvas or Google Classrooms.  

  • Deliver in-person instruction and support and online lessons as needed.  

  • Communicate with DSHS regarding students enrolled through WorkFirst as needed.  

 

Qualifications-Required 

  • Ability to work respectfully with people of different backgrounds, cultures, and ages. 

  • Good communication skills, dependable, able to consistently follow procedures. 

  • AA degree or higher.  

  • Experience teaching or tutoring, either in classrooms or alternative environments. 

  • Skilled in using Microsoft programs:  Word, Excel, and Outlook.  

  • Knowledge or experience using Canvas and/or Google Classroom platforms is a plus! 

Starting Pay:   Hourly D.O.E.
